Government Medical College & Hospital, Pudukkottai is a government-funded medical institution established in 2017 by the Tamil Nadu Government. Located in Mullur Village on a sprawling 127-acre green campus in Pudukkottai district, it was the 22nd government medical college in Tamil Nadu and became the first institution in the state to admit a full batch of 150 MBBS students in its inaugural year, reflecting the government's commitment to expanding quality medical education. Affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the college offers MBBS and allied health sciences programs. Government Hospital, Pudukkottai (Teaching Hospital)
The attached government teaching hospital providing clinical training to MBBS students across all core departments including general medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, orthopaedics, and emergency medicine.
Medical Library
A 2,400 sq. meter air-conditioned library containing over 3,000 medical science books, 14 Indian and 6 international journals, a separate 150-seat reading room, and a reference section for students and faculty.

GMC Pudukottai has 150 MBBS seats per year, approved by NMC for AY 2024-25. It was the first Tamil Nadu government medical college to admit 150 students in its inaugural year (2017). Of these, 127 seats are under the TN State Quota and 23 seats under the All India Quota.
For the AIQ (15% seats) in 2024, the closing AI ranks were: General 20551, OBC 17670, SC 132476, ST 166217. The Tamil Nadu State Quota (85%) closing rank across all categories was approximately 14,604. Scores correspond to approximately 555–565 marks for General category under AIQ.
As of 2024-25, GMC Pudukottai does not yet offer MD/MS postgraduate courses. It offers MBBS (150 seats) and B.Sc. allied health programs in Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiology & Imaging Technology, and Operation Theatre & Anaesthesia Technology (20 seats each). PG programs may be added as the institution matures.
