About Government Medical College, Jangaon
Government Medical College, Jangaon (GMC Jangaon) is a newly established government medical college situated provisionally at the MCH Centre, Champak Hills, Jangaon District, Telangana — PIN 506167. Established by the Government of Telangana in 2023 with an annual MBBS intake of 100 seats from the academic year 2023-24, the college is affiliated with the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Warangal, and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), Government of India. GMC Jangaon represents a significant step in the Telangana Government's mission to expand access to quality medical education across all districts of the state. Located at Champak Hills in Jangaon, the college is poised to serve a population of over 25 lakh in the Jangaon district and surrounding areas by training competent, compassionate physicians. The primary aim of the institution is to impart excellent medical education to students who will go on to deliver high-quality healthcare services to the community — particularly to rural and underserved populations of the region. The campus currently houses 24+ departments with 154+ faculty members and has admitted 100+ students since its first batch. The college features well-equipped science laboratories that allow students to conduct experiments and develop practical skills, digital classrooms with modern audio-visual teaching aids, and spacious lecture halls with seating for up to 150 students — ensuring a comfortable and productive learning environment. The central library houses an extensive collection of medical books, Indian and foreign journals, and a dedicated reading space for students and teaching staff. A digital library further expands access to a vast range of online academic resources. The institution places strong emphasis on holistic student development, providing sports, games, and recreational facilities to encourage physical fitness and mental well-being beyond the classroom. Separate hostels for male and female students are available within the campus, providing a safe, comfortable, and affordable residential environment. Transportation facilities are available for students commuting to and from the campus and affiliated hospitals. The college canteen provides hygienic and nutritious food options catering to the dietary needs of students. The attached teaching hospital is the Government General Hospital (GGH), Jangaon, which provides comprehensive healthcare services to the district. The hospital is equipped with 24×7 emergency services, dedicated OPD and IPD facilities, and extensive clinical and diagnostic laboratory services across departments including General Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Emergency Care. This ensures that students receive hands-on clinical training with exposure to real-world medical cases from an early stage of their programme. Admission to GMC Jangaon is purely merit-based through NEET UG, with seats allocated via MCC All India Quota (AIQ – 15%) and KNRUHS Telangana State Quota (85%) counselling. There are no management or NRI quota seats available. The college actively recruits qualified contract faculty for its academic departments (latest notification in January 2026 for Assistant Professor in Community Medicine), reflecting its ongoing commitment to building a strong and experienced teaching team. GMC Jangaon has already accumulated 10+ awards since its inception, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence and community service. The college is aligned with the Telangana government's broader vision of ensuring that every district has at least one government medical college, making quality medical education accessible across the state.
