About Government Medical College, Jayashankar Bhupalpally
Government Medical College, Jayashankar Bhupalpally (GMC Bhupalpally / GMCJB) is a government medical institution established in 2023 by the Telangana State Government, located in Ramappa Colony, Bhupalpally, Kompalle, Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, Telangana – PIN 506169. The college is named in honour of Telangana ideologue and distinguished scholar Professor K. Jayashankar, who dedicated his life to the Telangana statehood movement. Jayashankar Bhupalpally (also known as Acharya Jayashankar district) was carved out of the erstwhile Warangal district, and the establishment of this medical college is a direct outcome of the Telangana government's ArogyaTelangana initiative to ensure one government medical college per district. The college is affiliated with the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Warangal, and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), Government of India. The MBBS programme was started from the academic year 2023-24 with an annual intake of 100 seats. The college is led by Principal Dr. J. Venkateshwarlu (Additional DME), and the attached teaching hospital — Government General Hospital (GGH), Jayashankar Bhupalpally — is headed by Medical Superintendent Dr. P. Rajendra Prasad (MD General Medicine). GMC Jayashankar Bhupalpally offers a 5.5-year MBBS programme comprising 4.5 years of academic study across pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical departments, and 1 year of compulsory rotatory internship. The college is established in a green environmental town setting with all modern amenities conducive to student learning. The infrastructure includes spacious lecture halls with seating capacity of up to 150 students, demonstration rooms, examination halls, and well-equipped science and clinical laboratories. The skill lab is designed to ensure that students gain competency in a virtual/simulation setting before they work with real patients — a key pillar of the competency-based MBBS curriculum as required by NMC. The attached Government General Hospital provides clinical training across all major departments including General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiodiagnosis, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Forensic Medicine. The hospital offers 24×7 emergency services, OPD, IPD, and Clinical and Diagnostic Laboratory services — giving students comprehensive exposure to patient care from early years of the MBBS programme. Separate hostel facilities are available for male and female students within the campus, providing safe and comfortable accommodation. The college also provides sports facilities and encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities and cultural events to develop as well-rounded medical professionals. Transportation facilities assist outstation students commuting to and from the campus. The NMC Attendance Portal (https://gmcjaybhu.nmcindia.ac.in/) is active for real-time monitoring of academic attendance. Admissions are purely merit-based through NEET UG, with no management or NRI quota seats. 15% of seats are filled through MCC All India Quota (AIQ) counselling, and 85% through KNRUHS Telangana State Quota counselling. The NEET 2025 AIQ Round 1 closing score for General category was 535, with an AIR of ~20,614 — and it is currently ranked #36 in Telangana and #416 nationally by MBBSCouncil (parent preference ranking, 2025). Govt leaders overseeing the institution include: Chief Minister Shri Anumula Revanth Reddy; Health Minister Shri Damodar Rajanarasimha; IAS Secretary Dr. Christina Z. Chongthu; and Director of Medical Education Dr. A. Narendra Kumar. The college actively recruits contract faculty and publishes notifications on the official website for walk-in interviews.
