About Government Medical College, Kathua

Government Medical College (GMC), Kathua is a government medical college established in 2019 in Kathua district – the southernmost district of J&K UT, bordering Punjab (Pathankot). Located at Chak Sajjan village, NH-1A (Near Kalibari), Kathua – 4 km from Kathua city and 72 km from Jammu Airport – the college is affiliated with the University of Jammu and recognised by NMC. The 30.62-acre green campus houses the main medical college building, teaching hospital, doctors' staff quarters, resident doctor hostel, boys/girls hostels, playground, and supportive facilities. The associated hospital (District Hospital Kathua) is a 300-bed tertiary care multi-specialty teaching hospital serving 4+ lakh population of Kathua and surrounding areas. GMC Kathua offers 100 MBBS seats (JKBOPEE 2024-25: 85 seats under J&K UT Quota + ~15 AIQ), developing PG MD/MS in select disciplines, and also offers B.Sc Nursing and GNM courses.
