About Government Medical College, Khammam

Government Medical College, Khammam (GMC Khammam) is a government medical school and tertiary care hospital established on 18th April 2023 by the Government of Telangana, located at Nehru Nagar, Old Collector Building, ZP Center, Khammam, Telangana – PIN 507002. The college is affiliated with the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Warangal, and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Appanna (Senior Assistant: 9963219708). GMC Khammam is led by Principal Dr. T. Shankar, MBBS, MS (ENT), who is also Additional DME / Professor in ENT department. Previous Principal Dr. S. Rajeshwar Rao, MD served during 2023-24 and 2024. Other key faculty includes Dr. C. Saritha (Vice-Principal Academic), Dr. K. Sujana Goud (Vice-Principal Admin), Dr. L. Kiran Kumar MS (Medical Superintendent, GGH), and Dr. B. Kiran Kumar MS (Deputy Medical Superintendent, GGH). Administrative oversight is provided by Sri. The college offers a 5.5-year MBBS programme (4.5 years + 1 year compulsory rotatory internship) with an annual intake of 100 students. It also offers Paramedical Courses. The campus features well-equipped departmental laboratories, spacious lecture halls, a well-stocked library, IT infrastructure, sports facilities, research facilities, and hostel accommodation for boys and girls inside the campus (covering 75% of students). Hostel accommodation is separated for boys and girls, managed by the Hostel Management Division. The hostel provides: Warden/Security 24×7/CC Camera/Fire Extinguisher; Doctor on call 24×7; Mattress, bedsheet, pillow & pillow cover; All Meals (Breakfast/Lunch/Evening Snacks/Dinner); Laundry (Washing Machine); HOT water; Daily Housekeeping. Hostel fee: ₹23,000/year (Non-Refundable ₹5,000 + Caution Deposit Refundable ₹5,000 + Rent ₹12,000 + Application Fee ₹1,000). DD for hostel in favour of 'PRINCIPAL, GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE, KHAMMAM' payable at Khammam from any Nationalized Bank. The Government General Hospital (GGH), Khammam is the former district hospital and serves as the teaching hospital. It operates under supervision of Medical College Department HODs along with TVVP (Telangana Vaidhya Vidhana Parishad) specialist doctors. It is the headquarters for all Area Hospitals (AH), Community Health Centres (CHC), Primary Health Centres (PHC), and Basti Dawakhanas in and around Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts. Services include Central Laboratory, T-Hub Radiology, T-Hub Diagnostics, and approximately 20 Specialist Doctors recognized under TVVP including Super Specialty departments. Admissions are merit-based via NEET UG — 15% AIQ and 85% KNRUHS State Quota. No management or NRI seats. Ranked #21 in Telangana, #401 All India (MBBSCouncil, NEET 2025).
