About Government Medical College, Kozhikode
Government Medical College, Kozhikode — popularly known as Calicut Medical College (CMC) — was established on August 5, 1957, as the second medical college in Kerala. Inaugurated by Health Minister Dr. A. R. Menon, the institution has grown into a premier national center for medical education, healthcare, and research. Spread across a sprawling 270-acre campus about 8 km east of Kozhikode city, it is affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The college serves nearly 40% of Kerala's population through its vast hospital complex. With 250 MBBS seats, 215 PG seats across 26 disciplines, and 29 super-specialty seats across 10 disciplines, it is one of India's largest medical colleges.
