About Government Medical College, Manjeri
Government Medical College, Manjeri (GMC Manjeri) is the sixth government medical college established under the Government of Kerala, inaugurated on 1st September 2013 by then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Located in Vellarangal, Manjeri, in the Malappuram district of Kerala, the college is spread over a sprawling 26.51-acre campus. It is affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The attached teaching hospital, developed by upgrading the existing General Hospital at Manjeri, provides over 500 beds and 12 operation theatres across all major clinical disciplines. The college admits 110 MBBS students annually and also offers postgraduate MD/MS programs. Infrastructure includes technology-infused gallery-type lecture halls, a well-equipped Medical Skills Lab, a central library of 1,740 sq. m with over 8,700 books and 100 journals, and separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. GMC Manjeri serves the healthcare needs of Malappuram and surrounding districts, providing free and subsidized care to the poor and conducting medical camps in rural areas.
