About Government Medical College, Mumbai

Government Medical College, Mumbai (GMC Mumbai) is a newly established government medical institution attached to the iconic Gokuldas Tejpal (GT) Hospital, L.T. Marg (Plot No. 1465), Mumbai — 400001. The NMC Letter of Permission was granted on 06/07/2024 for 50 MBBS seats, making it one of Mumbai's newest and smallest government medical colleges. GMC Mumbai operates under DMER, Government of Maharashtra, and is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik. The Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital is Mumbai's historic government-run free hospital since 1875, housed in a stunning early English Gothic building. Under the leadership of Dean Dr. Jitendra Kamal Kashirao Deshmukh, the college blends '150 years of compassionate service with modern innovation' — shaping skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals for Maharashtra and the nation. The college has a state-of-the-art medical college building with modern infrastructure, experienced faculty, and advanced facilities. With only 50 MBBS seats (the smallest intake among government medical colleges in Maharashtra), GMC Mumbai offers an intimate learning environment with exceptional clinical exposure from the 450+ bed GT Hospital — one of South Mumbai's most historically significant public hospitals. Annual MBBS tuition fee: approximately INR 1,10,000–1,50,000/year. Expected NEET cutoff: among the highest in Maharashtra due to prime Mumbai location.

Frequently Asked Questions

GMC Mumbai is the newest government medical college in Mumbai, established in 2024 and attached to the iconic Gokuldas Tejpal (GT) Hospital — Mumbai's free government hospital since 1875 — at L.T. Marg (Lokmanya Tilak Marg), Mumbai — 400001. Official website: gmcmumbai.org. Dean: Dr. Jitendra Kamal Kashirao Deshmukh. It has 50 MBBS seats — the smallest government MBBS batch in Maharashtra.

GMC Mumbai (GT Hospital) is very new (est. 2024) with only 50 seats — no alumni base yet. Established Mumbai government colleges (Grant MC, KEM, Sion, Nair, Cooper) are far more established with higher capacity (150–250 seats) and stronger track records. However, GT Hospital's 150-year heritage, South Mumbai location, small batch size (intimate learning), and proximity to premium private hospitals make it unique. Cutoff will be very high due to Mumbai demand.

Expected SQ 2024/2025 General closing score: 640–665 marks — among the highest in Maharashtra government colleges due to prime South Mumbai location. AIQ cutoff expected even higher (7–8 seats only). Compare: Grant MC Mumbai: 680+; KEM: 670+; Sion: 655+; Nair: 645+. Exact data: cetcell.mahacet.org and mcc.nic.in after counselling.

Annual tuition approximately INR 1,10,000–1,50,000/year (government college norms; best estimate INR 1,30,000/year). Total for 4.5 years: approximately INR 5,85,000. Hostel: ~INR 4,000/year extra. OBC/SC/ST/VJ: no tuition. EWS: halved tuition. Fee via DD. Exact fee: gmcmumbai.org / DMER fee circular.
