About Government Medical College, Ongole (Previously known as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Ongole)
Government Medical College, Ongole (formerly known as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences — RIMS Ongole) is one of the best government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh, located in Bhagyanagar, Ongole, Prakasam District. The foundation stone was laid by Late Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 01-07-2007. The institute was established as a semiautonomous institute under Act 31 of 2007, spread over 37.23 acres, and the first MBBS batch started in 2011-12 with 100 students. It was converted to Government Medical College (GMC) with effect from 28/12/2018 vide G.O. M.S No. 232 HM & FW (A) dept. In 2019-20, 20 additional seats were added under EWS Quota, taking the intake to 120. A LOP for increase to 150 seats has been granted for AY 2025-26. The college is affiliated with Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences and approved by NMC. PG courses were initiated in 2018 in Physiology, Pharmacology, and Microbiology (4 seats each), with Psychiatry added in 2021 (2 seats). NMC has issued LOI for seats in Respiratory Medicine (1) and Forensic Medicine (2). The campus covers approximately 40 acres with 8,60,000 sq. metres of constructed space — 3,28,000 sq. metres of college and hostel blocks, and 5,20,000 sq. metres of hospital complex including OPD.

Government General Hospital (GGH) — Teaching Hospital
The erstwhile District HQ Hospital, Ongole (200 beds) was taken over from 01-10-2008 and shifted to new RIMS premises at Bhagyanagar with 300 beds. The hospital complex covers 5,20,000 sq. metres including OPD. Provides 24x7 emergency, trauma, and specialist care across 27 departments including super-specialties.
