Government Medical College, Ramanathapuram is a newly established government medical institution founded in 2021 by the Government of Tamil Nadu to address the growing demand for medical education and improved healthcare access in the Ramanathapuram district. Affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the college offers an MBBS program with an annual intake of 100 students. Located near the Collectorate at Pattinampakkam, Ramanathapuram, the college provides clinical training through the District Government Hospital, Ramanathapuram, which handles diverse cases across medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, and emergency medicine. As an emerging institution under Tamil Nadu's healthcare expansion initiative, the campus is actively developing its academic infrastructure including lecture halls, laboratories, a library, and hostel facilities. GMC Ramanathapuram was established in 2021 with NMC approval on 01/11/2021. It is one of the newest government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, initiated to meet the growing demand for medical education and healthcare services in the Ramanathapuram district.

GMC Ramanathapuram has 100 MBBS seats per year, approved by NMC for AY 2024-25. Of these, 85 seats are under the Tamil Nadu State Quota (DME counselling) and 15 seats under the All India Quota (MCC counselling). There are no management or NRI quota seats.

For the AIQ (15% seats), the approximate closing AI rank for the General category is around 18,982 (based on recent data). Being a newer college, cutoff trends are still stabilising and tend to be more accessible than older, established government colleges.
