About Government Medical College, Thrissur

Government Medical College, Thrissur (GMC Thrissur), established in 1982, is one of Kerala's premier government medical institutions with over four decades of excellence in medical education and healthcare. Spread across 250 acres in Mulagunnathukavu, 14 km from Thrissur city, it initially functioned at the Veterinary College in Mannuthy before moving to its permanent campus in 1983 utilizing modified TB Sanatorium buildings. The college is affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) โ€” whose own headquarters is on the same campus โ€” and is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC). It offers MBBS (175 seats), 146+ MD/MS PG seats across 34 departments, and super-specialty DM/MCh programs in Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, and Surgical Oncology. The attached teaching hospital provides over 1,200 beds, 18+ operation theatres, ICUs, and sees over 1,200 outpatients daily. GMC Thrissur serves three Kerala districts and neighboring regions of Tamil Nadu, functioning as a major tertiary and super-specialty care center in central Kerala.
