Government Medical College, Vikarabad (GMC Vikarabad) is a state-run government medical institution situated amid the serene and historic Ananthagiri Hills, Vikarabad, Telangana. Officially inaugurated on 6 August 2022, GMC Vikarabad received formal NMC permission to operate on 18 April 2023. It is affiliated with Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Warangal, and offers 100 MBBS seats annually. Established by the Government of Telangana to provide quality medical education and accessible healthcare to the rural population of Vikarabad district and the surrounding region, the college carries a remarkable historical legacy: the campus was originally built in 1946 during the Nizam's era as a tuberculosis (TB) sanatorium — an architectural marvel that cured lakhs of patients from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu over decades. The historic building has been meticulously renovated and upgraded to meet contemporary NMC standards, seamlessly blending its colonial-era heritage with modern medical education infrastructure. The campus is located at Biladakala, Alampally, Vikarabad — approximately 75 km from Hyderabad on NH-167 (Hyderabad–Bidar Highway) — in a green, serene, hill-station-like environment. Vikarabad is a railway junction on the Secunderabad–Wadi line, well connected to Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. Active institutional committees include the Curriculum Committee, MEU (Medical Education Unit), Scientific Committee, Disciplinary Committee, HICC Committee (Hospital Infection Control), Internal Complaints Committee, Research Cell, Cadaver Donation Committee, Anti-Drug Committee, Mentor-Mentee Committee, Pharmacovigilance Committee, Institutional Ethics Committee, and Sports & Cultural Committee — all constituted per NMC norms.
