Govt. Ayodhya Shivkumari Ayurved College & Hospital (GASACH), Begusarai, is one of the oldest and most distinguished government Ayurvedic medical institutions in the state of Bihar and among the apex institutes under the Department of AYUSH, Government of Bihar. The college was established on 1st August 1946 by the visionary social worker and landlord Late Ayodhya Prasad Singh, who donated a substantial portion of his own land to found the institution — originally named Ayodhya Shivkumari Ayurveda College. The college operated as a private Ayurvedic institution until 1976, after which the Government of Bihar took over its administration, and since 25th May 1977, it has been running as a full-fledged government institution under the name Govt. Ayodhya Shivkumari Ayurved College & Hospital, Begusarai. Over its eight decades of existence, the institution has produced generations of skilled Ayurvedic practitioners who have served across Bihar, India, and abroad. Among its distinguished alumni is Dr. Shiv Kumar Mishra, who served as Health Advisor (Ayurveda) in the Department of Health, Government of India — a testament to the calibre of education imparted here. Sharma, and Dr. Ram Raksha Pathak have served as principals of this institution, contributing immensely to the field of Ayurveda. GASACH Begusarai offers the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) programme — a comprehensive 5.5-year course comprising 4.5 years of academic education followed by one year of compulsory internship. The current intake capacity stands at 38 seats per year, with 6 seats under the Central Quota and 32 seats under the State Quota. Admission is based strictly on NEET UG merit, with seat allotment carried out through Bihar Ayush counselling conducted by the Bihar state competent authority. As a government institution, the annual fee is state-regulated at approximately ₹9,971 per year — among the lowest for BAMS in India — making this college a preferred destination for meritorious students from Bihar and across the country. The institute is strategically situated in the heart of Begusarai city, adjacent to the north boundary wall of Begusarai Railway Station and approximately half a kilometre north of the Begusarai Bus Station on the Begusarai-Manjhaul Road. The campus is set in a serene, green environment under the jurisdiction of Suhrida Nagar Post Office, surrounded by the residences of senior administrative officers such as the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, and Judge — reflecting the prestige and central location of the institution. The campus features a spacious double-storeyed building with separate well-lit and aerated sections for academics and the hospital. The academic block houses well-equipped classrooms, an auditorium, dedicated departmental practical laboratories, a museum, tutorial rooms, an anatomy dissection hall, a library, common rooms for boys and girls, and a faculty common room across its 14 teaching departments. A large, lush central lawn with a Dhanwantari Mandir stands at the centre of the campus, and the surrounding grounds are home to a rich variety of medicinal herbs, shrubs, and plants, forming an on-campus botanical resource for Dravyaguna students.
