About Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot
Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital (GGSMCH), Faridkot, is one of the oldest and most prestigious government medical colleges in Punjab, established in 1973. Named after the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji — whose values of courage, compassion, and selfless service are deeply woven into the institutional identity — GGSMCH was founded under the Government of Punjab with significant involvement from former President of India Shri Giani Zail Singh (1982–1987), who was the Chief Minister of Punjab during the college's formative years and was deeply committed to its establishment. Located in Faridkot — a historic city in the Malwa region of Punjab with strong Sikh heritage — GGSMCH occupies a unified campus with the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS). This unique co-location of the medical college with the apex health sciences university of Punjab makes GGSMCH a singular academic institution: it is both a government medical college and physically part of the BFUHS university campus, creating a seamless integration of medical education governance and delivery. The campus spans 140 acres — one of the most spacious medical college campuses in Punjab — with academic buildings covering 41,990 sq.mt and hospital buildings spanning 69,260 sq.mt. Hostel and residential complexes cover 23,817 sq.mt. The AC library holds 19,026 books and 68 Indian + 42 foreign journals. Single and double rooms are available in hostels (2–3 persons per room). The attached teaching hospital started functioning with 630 beds and has since expanded to 1,000+ beds. With advanced facilities including MRI, CT scan, PET-CT, cardiology, neurosurgery, and cancer care services, the GGSMCH hospital is one of the most technically advanced government hospitals in Punjab outside Chandigarh PGI. NIRF 2023 ranked GGSMCH 41st among all medical colleges in India and 15th among government medical colleges — a remarkable recognition that reflects the institution's academic quality and research output. GGSMCH offers MBBS with 150 seats (200 from AY 2025-26), MD/MS with 92 seats, DM/M.Ch super specialty programs, and allied health sciences programs (B.Sc, BMLT, BMRIT, BOpt, BOTT, BASLP, M.Sc). First-year MBBS fee: ₹1,74,000; total course fee progressively structured. NRI total course fee: USD 1,10,000. NEET UG 2025 Stray Vacancy Round AIQ closing rank: 26,167 (General). 6 AIQ allotments during 2021–2024 combined.
