About Guru Nanak College of Education, New Delhi

Guru Nanak College of Education (GNCE), established in 2005, is a private teacher training college in New Delhi inspired by the teachings and philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. Located in Ibrahimpur on the G.T. Karnal Road in North-West Delhi, the college is approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) for its Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) program. The two-year full-time B.Ed program at GNCE is designed to produce competent, compassionate, and professionally skilled school teachers. The curriculum follows GGSIPU's B.Ed syllabus which is aligned with NCTE norms and covers core areas including Childhood and Growing Up, Creating an Inclusive School, Learning and Teaching, Assessment for Learning, Knowledge and Curriculum, Language across the Curriculum, Understanding ICT in Education, and Contemporary India and Education. Students also choose subject-specific pedagogy courses based on their academic background (such as Teaching of Science, Mathematics, Social Sciences, English, Hindi, etc.). The cornerstone of the B.Ed program is the mandatory school teaching practice (internship) spanning approximately 16-20 weeks. During this period, student-teachers are placed in schools across Delhi where they plan lessons, deliver classroom instruction, manage students, prepare teaching aids, and receive feedback from mentor teachers and college supervisors. This practical component transforms theoretical knowledge into classroom competence and is widely regarded as the most transformative aspect of teacher education. GNCE's campus infrastructure includes classrooms equipped with projectors and audio-visual aids, a psychology and educational technology laboratory with psychometric testing instruments and educational models, a science and mathematics resource room with teaching aids and experimental kits, an art and craft room for visual aids preparation, a computer laboratory with internet access for ICT practicals, a library with education textbooks, NCERT publications, pedagogy references, and journals, and a multipurpose hall for seminars, workshops, and cultural events. The faculty at GNCE comprises experienced educators with postgraduate and doctoral qualifications in Education, Psychology, and subject disciplines. Faculty members bring a blend of academic expertise and practical school teaching experience. The college regularly organizes seminars on educational topics, workshops on innovative teaching methodologies, educational exhibitions, micro-teaching demonstrations, and cultural programs that contribute to the holistic development of future teachers. After completing B.Ed from GNCE, graduates are eligible to appear for CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test), STET (State Teacher Eligibility Tests), and competitive examinations for teaching posts in Kendriya Vidyalaya (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya (NVS), Delhi government schools (DSSSB), Army Public Schools, and private schools across India. Many graduates secure teaching positions in reputed private schools in Delhi NCR immediately after completing their B.Ed. The college's North-West Delhi location on G.T. Karnal Road provides reasonable connectivity. While not directly on a metro line, the area is served by DTC buses and is accessible from Model Town, Azadpur, and Jahangirpuri metro stations. The surrounding area has affordable accommodation options for outstation students. GNCE places strong emphasis on values-based education, drawing from Guru Nanak Dev Ji's principles of equality, service, and compassion. The college organizes community service activities, educational outreach programs, and observes important days related to education and national heritage. These activities instill a sense of social responsibility and ethical values in future teachers, preparing them not just as instructors but as mentors and role models for young learners.
