About Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital, Bhubaneswar

Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital (HMCH), Bhubaneswar, holds the historic distinction of being the first private medical college ever established in Odisha and, indeed, in all of Eastern India — a pioneering institution that opened its doors in 2005 under the Utkal Charitable Trust and fundamentally changed the landscape of private medical education in the eastern region. Before HMCH's establishment, Odisha had no private NMC-approved medical college, and aspiring doctors from Odisha who could not secure government seats were compelled to study in far-flung states or abroad. HMCH changed this reality, providing an alternative path to medical education within Odisha itself. Located at Pandra, Bhubaneswar — approximately 9.8 km from Biju Patnaik International Airport — HMCH occupies a sprawling, aesthetically designed integrated campus of 42 acres, combining the medical college building, the Hi-Tech Hospital (teaching hospital), hostels, academic facilities, and administrative infrastructure in a single, well-planned campus. The campus is well connected by air (airport 9.8 km), rail (Bhubaneswar Railway Station approximately 12 km), and road (National Highway accessible via Pandra). HMCH offers MBBS with an annual intake of 150 seats and MD/MS postgraduate programs across 20 departments with 101 total PG seats — the latter making it one of the largest PG programs among private medical colleges in Odisha. PG programs are available in specializations including General Medicine, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Community Medicine, Pathology, Microbiology, Anaesthesiology, and others. The total MBBS fee for the complete 5.5-year course is ₹35,80,000 (all-inclusive). For PG programs, MS courses are ₹21,40,000/year and MD programs range from ₹13,50,000/year to ₹21,40,000/year depending on specialization. The attached Hi-Tech Hospital is a large multi-specialty tertiary care hospital with 500+ teaching beds, super-specialty departments, and an ICU occupancy of 60–90%. Super specialties include Urology, Nephrology, Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Plastic Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Paediatric Surgery, Endocrinology, Vascular Surgery, Gastroenterology, and Cardiology — an impressive range for a private hospital in Odisha. The hospital has ultramodern imaging (X-Ray, Ultrasound, Doppler, CT, MRI), a 24×7 emergency wing equipped for trauma and casualties, a 24×7 central laboratory, and a fully equipped blood bank with a cold room. With 60–90% bed occupancy, the hospital provides an excellent range of clinical exposure for both UG and PG students. Academic infrastructure includes 5 air-conditioned lecture theatres each with 180-seat capacity, well-equipped departmental labs, departmental museums, a centrally placed library building with 7,400+ books (500 titles), 150+ national and international journals, and a digital library with internet facilities. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled. The college has separate hostels for boys and girls with 24-hour security, separate dining rooms, recreation rooms, and study rooms — total capacity over 1,300 students. A variety of sports facilities and recreational activities are encouraged to ensure holistic student development. HMCH's NEET UG 2024 AIQ closing rank for General category: approximately 1,08,000–1,30,000 range (accessible for moderate NEET scorers). In Odisha state quota 2024, General closing was approximately 4,40,571 (rank). NEET PG 2024 at HMCH: MD specializations competitive in popular branches. PG stipend as per Odisha state norms.
