Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati (IIIT Guwahati or IIITG) is a centrally funded Institute of National Importance established in 2013 under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Government of India. Recognized under The Indian Institutes of Information Technology (PPP) Act, 2017, IIITG is one of the 20 PPP-model IIITs set up by the Central Government across India. The institute operates from a 67-acre campus in Bongora, Guwahati, Assam, situated along NH17 near the Jalukbari area, making it well-connected by road, rail, and air. IIIT Guwahati has a distinguished academic history, having ranked 66th nationally in the NIRF Engineering category in its first eligible year (2020) – the highest rank achieved by any MHRD-funded IIIT at that time. The institute offers B.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), along with M.Tech programmes in CSE (On-Campus and Online), M.Tech in ECE (On-Campus and Online), and Ph.D. programmes across CSE, ECE, and Sciences & Mathematics. The annual B.Tech intake is 165 students. The B.Tech curriculum begins with computing-oriented courses in early semesters, allowing students to build a strong IT foundation before integrating science and hardware courses. The curriculum is designed to produce innovators and researchers with practical problem-solving skills. IIITG also runs an Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) Cell to foster a startup mindset among students. Cloud-based examination tools, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and a campus-wide Wi-Fi network ensure seamless digital learning. A unique feature of IIITG is its Online M.Tech in CSE and ECE – one of the few government IIITs offering accredited online postgraduate programmes with credit-based fee structures. IIIT Guwahati's placement record has been steadily improving. In 2024, the highest package was INR 52 LPA, the average was INR 14.88 LPA, and the median was INR 13.65 LPA. CSE led with a 62.6% placement rate, average INR 15.26 LPA. Top recruiters include Amazon, Atlassian, Cisco, DE Shaw, Deloitte, Flipkart, Microsoft, Samsung, Morgan Stanley, ZS Associates, Tekion, and L&T. The 2025 placement drive is ongoing with strong recruiter participation. An important fee-related note from the official IIITG website: there is NO tuition fee waiver or concession for SC/ST or any category at IIIT Guwahati; all students pay the same fee, though the institute facilitates state government scholarships. The B.Tech tuition fee for the 2025 admission batch is ₹2,75,000 per year (₹1,37,500 per semester), with an annual increase structure for subsequent years. M.Tech CSE on-campus tuition is ₹1,00,000 per semester while ECE M.Tech is ₹75,000 per semester. A refundable caution deposit of ₹5,000 is charged once at admission. Campus facilities include air-conditioned classrooms with projectors, advanced research labs for CSE and ECE, a comprehensive library, a sports complex with cricket, football, badminton, and table tennis, gymnasium, indoor sports facilities, a healthcare center, and comfortable residential hostels for boys and girls. The Student Gymkhana manages cultural, sports, and technical activities, while the I&E Cell drives innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives.
