Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kalyani (IIIT Kalyani or IIITK) is a premier Institute of National Importance established on May 21, 2014, under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Government of India, the Government of West Bengal, and founding industry partners – Coal India Ltd., Rolta Foundation, and WEBEL. It was conferred the status of Institute of National Importance in March 2017. IIIT Kalyani is strategically located at Webel IT Park, near Buddha Park in Kalyani, Nadia district, West Bengal, a location that places it within the vibrant Kalyani academic and industrial corridor near Kolkata. The institute is currently operating from a transit campus at Webel IT Park while its state-of-the-art permanent campus is nearing completion. The new permanent campus is designed to foster academic and research excellence with modern infrastructure including dedicated labs, residential facilities, library, and sports areas. IIIT Kalyani has active associations with NASSCOM (Head of Eastern Region), CII, and FICCI, enhancing its industry connectivity in Eastern India. Visiting faculty from IIT Kharagpur, IIEST Shibpur, Aliah University, and WBNUJS regularly contribute to the academic ecosystem. IIIT Kalyani offers B.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), CSE with Cyber Security, Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), and CSE with Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, with a total intake of 227 students. Branch change is allowed after Semester 1 based on merit (top 5% of each programme). At the postgraduate level, M.Tech is offered in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science and Advanced Communication Systems & Signal Processing. Ph.D. programmes are available in CSE, ECE, and Sciences. Admissions to B.Tech are via JoSAA/CSAB counselling based on JEE Main scores. M.Tech admissions require valid GATE scores. The fee structure at IIIT Kalyani is uniform for all students regardless of category – there is NO tuition fee waiver for SC/ST or any category, though the institute facilitates applications to NSP and Swami Vivekananda Scholarship. The per-semester tuition fee is ₹1,10,000 (with ₹1,10,000 applicable from 2025 batch, carrying a 10% annual increase for activity fees), making the total B.Tech tuition approximately ₹8.80 Lakhs. IIIT Kalyani has a strong placement track record. The 2024 BTech placement drive achieved an 89.33% rate with 67 of 75 registered students placed. The highest package was INR 44 LPA, average INR 10.72 LPA, and median INR 9 LPA. CSE led with 42 placement offers. Top recruiters include Virtusa, Wipro, SAP, TCS, Ericsson India, Reliance Jio, Deloitte, Amazon, Microsoft, and Cognizant. The institute hosted its First Alumni Meet in January 2025, featuring distinguished guests like Shri Arjun Malhotra, co-founder of HCL, reflecting a growing alumni network. Campus life at IIIT Kalyani includes technical clubs (Algoholic – Technical Club), cultural clubs (Symphony – Music Club, Film and Media Club), and an active Institute Innovation Council (IIC).
