Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sonepat (IIIT Sonepat or IIIT Sonipat) is an Institute of National Importance established in 2014 under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Government of India and the Government of Haryana. The institute received its National Importance status in 2017. IIIT Sonepat is committed to addressing national and global challenges through nurturing talent in IT and allied fields, emerging as an elite research institution offering futuristic quality education of global standards. The institute commenced its academic session at NIT Kurukshetra, later operated from Rajiv Gandhi Education City in Sonepat, and since 2022 has been functioning from its transit campus at the SBIT (Sri Balwant Institute of Technology) campus in the Sonepat-Bahalgarh Industrial Area. A permanent campus is under development and is expected to be ready, with students anticipating a possible shift in early 2026. The transit campus at SBIT provides air-conditioned classrooms with smart boards, well-equipped labs with Wi-Fi, and a library. The permanent campus, once complete, promises comprehensive world-class infrastructure. IIIT Sonepat offers B.Tech in three specializations: Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), CSE with Data Science and Analytics (CSE-DSA), and Information Technology (IT), with a total intake of 240 seats (80 per specialization). Ph.D. programmes are also offered in CSE and IT. No M.Tech programme is currently offered. Admissions to B.Tech are via JoSAA/CSAB counselling based on JEE Main scores. DASA is also available for NRI/foreign students. The fee structure at IIIT Sonepat is relatively moderate. The total 4-year B.Tech fee is approximately ₹7.20 Lakhs (tuition only) based on available data, with total programme cost including hostel approximately ₹8–10 Lakhs depending on hostel type. The institute provides hostel facilities for both boys and girls; hostel fee structure has been released for AY 2024-25. Fee is same for all students regardless of category (no institutional fee waiver). IIIT Sonepat has shown improving placement outcomes. In 2025, out of 168 eligible students, 98 were placed with 114 offers, with the highest package at INR 62 LPA (CSE) and an average of INR 13.98 LPA (CSE). IT branch highest was also ₹62 LPA. Overall placement rate was 58.3% in 2025. In 2024, the highest was ₹40 LPA with average ₹15.87 LPA and median ₹12 LPA (placement rate 64.77%). In 2023, the placement rate was 78.79% with highest ₹52 LPA and average ₹16.5 LPA. Top recruiters include Reliance Jio, Amazon, Deloitte, Polygon, Infosys, IBM, L&T, TCS, Juspay, Arcesium, Zomato, Adobe, and Microsoft. IIIT Sonepat has an active partnership with Red Hat Academy for open-source technology training.
