Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Kurnool (IIITDM Kurnool), also known as IIIT Kurnool or IIITDMKL, is a centrally funded Institute of National Importance established in 2015 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education), Government of India. The institute began its operations in the academic year 2015-16 under the mentorship of IIITDM Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. In 2017, IIITDM Kurnool was formally accorded the status of an Institute of National Importance through an Act of Parliament. The institute is set up to foster excellence in education with a specialized focus on design and manufacturing-oriented engineering, in line with the Government of India's Make in India and Skill India missions. Located on a 151-acre campus atop Jagannathagattu Hill in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, IIITDM Kurnool's permanent buildings were developed in July 2019. The campus currently houses a dedicated academic wing, administrative wing, lecture halls, seminar halls, and laboratory blocks for all departments. The institute is approximately 12 km from Kurnool City Railway Station and 20 km from Kurnool Airport (Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy Airport), accessible via National Highway 40. IIITDM Kurnool offers 4 undergraduate B.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI&DS), Electronics and Communication Engineering with specialization in Design and Manufacturing (ECE DM), and Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Design and Manufacturing (ME DM). In addition, 3 Dual Degree (B.Tech+M.Tech) programmes are offered in CSE, ECE, and ME. At the postgraduate level, 7 M.Tech programmes are available across the CSE, ECE, and ME departments. Ph.D. programmes are offered in CSE, ECE, ME, Physics, and Mathematics. A freshly developed curriculum aligned with NEP-2020 was implemented from AY 2024-25, with a strong focus on practical, product-oriented, and project-based learning. The curriculum includes practicum components where students showcase innovation and solve real-world engineering problems. The institute has signed an MoU with CodeTantra for an online i-learning platform for coding skill enhancement, and with the University of Agder (UiA), Norway for international academic collaboration. Admissions to B.Tech and Dual Degree programmes are conducted through JoSAA/CSAB counselling based on JEE Main scores. M.Tech admissions require valid GATE scores via CCMT. Ph.D. admissions accept GATE, UGC-NET, or CSIR-NET scores, complemented by a written test or interview. The placement record of IIITDM Kurnool has been steadily growing. In 2024, the highest package offered was INR 32.5 LPA (Flipkart), with significant offers from Google (₹24.7 LPA) and XCOM Labs (₹23.4 LPA). The average package in 2024 stood at approximately INR 8.2 LPA, improving from ₹10.79 LPA in 2023. Top recruiters include Infosys, HCL Tech, MAQ Software, VIZUARA AI Labs, TCS, Corizo, and Atlas. Campus facilities at IIITDM Kurnool include dedicated laboratories, an air-conditioned library, AC classrooms, sports courts (cricket, basketball, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, football, and tennis), a gymnasium, modern indoor stadium, a health centre with a doctor and pharmaceutical assistant, an SBI branch, Canara Bank kiosk, Indian Post Office, 24x7 ATM, supermarket, food stalls, and a cafeteria. The institute provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls with capacity for 1,200 students. Financially, SC/ST/PwD students receive a 100% tuition fee waiver. Various central and state government scholarships are available including PM YASASVI, PM Vidyalaxmi Educational Loans, Jagananna Vidya Deevena (AP), and Reliance Foundation Scholarship. The freshly revised NEP-2020 aligned curriculum, strategic location in the industrial Rayalaseema corridor, and growing placements make IIITDM Kurnool an emerging engineering destination for students from Andhra Pradesh and across India.
