IIMG Gold Medal for Scholastic Performance
IIM Guwahati will award its Gold Medal for scholastic performance every year to up to three students from the graduating class. Students are shortlisted if they are in the top 15 percent of the first-year class and the top 10 percent of the second-year class by CGPA, have a CGPA of at least 3.200 in each year and 3.300 cumulatively, have no F grade in any course, and have no record of academic indiscipline. The Programme Executive Committee recommends names to the Academic Council and may choose not to recommend anyone if it feels that performance or conduct is not deserving.
Reservation also plays a role in access. IIM Guwahati follows the Government of India reservation policy, with 27 percent of seats for NC-OBC, 15 percent for SC, 7.5 percent for ST, 10 percent for EWS and 5 percent for persons with benchmark disabilities. Of the 70 planned seats for 2026-28, 28 are General, 7 EWS, 19 NC-OBC, 11 SC and 5 ST. Candidates from these categories need to meet the eligibility and minimum CAT cut-offs to qualify, and the first step in reducing cost is therefore to claim the right category at the time of CAT registration.
Candidates should keep in mind that the institute has not published any institutional fee waiver or need-based scheme of its own at this stage, and that scholarship terms are decided by the awarding government agencies. Applicants should read the official announcements, confirm the current rules on the relevant government portals and ask the Programme Office about the application process after admission. For more details, see the fee structure.
Families planning the finances for this programme should also factor in the registration fee of INR 50,000 that is paid at the time of acceptance and adjusted against the first term, the refundable caution deposit of INR 15,000, and the mess advance of INR 18,000 per term. Education loans from banks are a common route to funding an MBA, and applicants can discuss this with their bank after receiving the offer letter. For more details, see the scholarship page.
