Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur (IIM Sirmaur) is a Centrally Funded Institution of National Importance established by the Government of India in 2015 as a third-generation IIM, functioning under the IIM Act, 2017, and the Ministry of Education. The institute began operations with its first MBA batch on 4 September 2015, mentored in its early years by IIM Lucknow, and introduced the full-time MBA Tourism program and the doctoral (FPM) program in 2019-20. IIM Sirmaur is located on the foothills of the Himalayas in District Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh, with its permanent campus coming up on around 210 acres of government-allotted land at Dhaula Kuan and a city/temporary campus at Paonta Sahib. The Government of India approved the first phase of the permanent campus for a built-up area of 60,384 sqm to accommodate 600 students at a project cost of approximately Rs. 392.51 crore, with the foundation stone laid on 4 August 2020, per the official About page. The institute currently offers a two-year full-time residential flagship MBA (General Management), a two-year full-time residential MBA in Tourism Management/Tourism, Travel & Hospitality Management, a four-year undergraduate Bachelors of Management Studies (BMS) admitted through IPMAT, a full-time residential doctoral (Ph.D./FPM) program, an Executive MBA, and the Post Graduate Programme in Leadership and Smart Manufacturing (PGPEX-LSM) for working professionals. MBA admissions are conducted through the Common Admission Process (CAP) coordinated jointly with IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu, based on CAT scores followed by a Personal Interview and a composite score that also weighs academics, work experience and gender diversity. IIM Sirmaur is led by Director Dr. Prafulla Y. Agnihotri, with Mr. Ajay S. Shriram (Chairman & Senior Managing Director, DCM Shriram Limited) as Chairperson of the Board of Governors. The institute has been ranked 51st in the Management category by NIRF 2025 (up from 57th in 2024 and 98th in 2023), and has entered international academic collaborations including MoUs with emlyon business school (Lyon, France), Sainte Marie De Chavagnes (Cannes, France), the University of Bordeaux, the University of Paris, and the International Tourism Studies Association (ITSA), among others, per the official website.
