About Indian Institute of Technology Delhi
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is one of India's most prestigious institutions of higher learning and is widely regarded as the pinnacle of engineering and technical education in the country. Established in 1961 as a College of Engineering and Technology through collaboration with the United Kingdom government, it was formally declared an Institution of National Importance under the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963 and renamed IIT Delhi. Accorded the status of a Deemed University with full academic autonomy, IIT Delhi was among the first institutions to receive the prestigious Institution of Eminence (IoE) status from the Ministry of Education, Government of India in 2018. Spread across a sprawling 320-acre campus in Hauz Khas, South Delhi, IIT Delhi is home to 16 academic departments, 11 multidisciplinary centres, 6 schools, and several Centres of Excellence (CoEs).
