About Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad
Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad (IIT Dharwad), established in 2016 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, is the only IIT in Karnataka and one of six third-generation IITs set up to broaden access to world-class technical education. Mentored by IIT Bombay, IIT Dharwad holds a unique dual distinction: it is India's first green IIT campus, having received a coveted 5-Star GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) rating for its 470-acre permanent campus at Chikkamalligawad, Navalur Koppalu, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12 March 2023. The institute offers B.Tech programs across 9 disciplines including unique offerings such as Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Interdisciplinary Sciences, and Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. It also offers BS-MS Dual Degree, M.Tech, M.Sc, MS by Research, and Ph.D programs. IIT Dharwad has established a Global Centre of Excellence in Affordable and Clean Energy and has signed MoUs with the University of New Brunswick (Canada), National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan), and University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. Ranked 77th in Engineering by NIRF 2025 (up from 93rd in 2024), the institute's placements have also been improving — in 2024-25, 123 of 147 registered students were placed with a highest package of INR 38.5 LPA and an average of INR 14.65 LPA. In recent JoSAA counselling rounds, the closing rank for B.Tech CSE at IIT Dharwad in the General (Gender Neutral) All India category has been in the range of approximately AIR 4,700–6,300. In 2024, the JEE Advanced closing rank for CSE was approximately 6,375 for General category. The cutoff for EE was around 10,500, Mechanical around 15,000, and Civil/Chemical around 16,000–17,000. Candidates should check the official JoSAA website for exact round-wise and category-wise closing ranks.
The total tuition fee for a 4-year B.Tech at IIT Dharwad is INR 8 lakh (INR 1 lakh/year).
