Management Development Institute Murshidabad (MDI Murshidabad / MDIM) is a private business school established in 2014 under the aegis of the MDI Society, which also governs the more senior and well-known Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon. Prof. (Dr.) Jayanthi Ranjan, a higher-education leader with over three decades of experience across Information Systems, Digital Transformation, Business Analytics, Knowledge Management and AI, was appointed as Director of MDI Murshidabad in 2026. MDIM's flagship offering is a 2-Year Full-Time Residential Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), approved by AICTE, accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), and recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to an MBA. Admission is via CAT/XAT/valid GMAT scores followed by a Personal Interview; the current sanctioned intake is 180 seats. Beyond the flagship PGDM, MDIM received fresh AICTE approvals from AY 2025-26 for three new programmes: a 2-Year Online PGDM for working professionals (60 seats), a 4-Year Bachelor of Business Administration or BBA with NEP-style entry (30 seats, admission via CUET/institute-level test), and a Fellow Programme in Management or FPM (10 seats) - MDIM's doctoral-level programme for those pursuing careers in academia, policy and research, offering a monthly stipend of INR 35,000-40,000 to full-time residential scholars along with an annual contingency grant. MDIM also conducts Management Development Programmes (MDPs) and executive education for organisations such as LIC of India, Eastern Coalfields Ltd., MSTC, GRSE, RINL, IOCL, WBPDCL and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), and runs Centres of Excellence including a Centre for Entrepreneurship and Start-Ups, Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, MDIM Case Research Centre, Centre for Indian Wisdom and Management, and Centre for Agri Business & Food Processing. The fully residential, roughly 10-acre campus at Kulori, Raghunathganj (Murshidabad district, West Bengal), houses hostels (Eklavya and Siraj for boys, Bhagirathi for girls, together accommodating several hundred students), an air-conditioned library with digital/print resources including HBR case databases, a Bloomberg Finance Lab, computer centres with NVIVO/SPSS software, a swimming pool, gymnasium, badminton/volleyball/football facilities, a health centre, an on-campus cafe (Angeethi), and an alcohol- and tobacco-free campus policy. MDIM has signed MoUs with institutions including IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), South Asian University and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, and runs a Virtual Exchange Programme with Santa Fe College, Florida (USA). In rankings, MDIM was placed State Rank 1 (West Bengal) and India Rank 10 (PGDM General, Private B-Schools) / Rank 14 (Overall, Private B-Schools) in the IIRF 2026 rankings, was graded AA+ and ranked around 35th nationally by MBAUniverse.com, and was recognised by BW Businessworld as a top B-school with Zone Rank 3 in the Eastern Zone.
