About Narayan Medical College & Hospital
Narayan Medical College & Hospital (NMCH), located at Jamuhar on the Old GT Road between Sasaram and Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas District, Bihar, is one of Bihar's premier private medical institutions and the flagship constituent college of Gopal Narayan Singh University (GNSU). Established in 2008 under the Deo Mangal Memorial Trust by Shri Gopal Narayan Singh, NMCH was born from a deeply personal mission — to honor the dream of his parents, Lt. Deo Narayan Singh and Lt. Mangla Devi, who envisioned a hospital serving the deprived communities of Rohtas District. The trust first opened Narayan Chikitsalaya, a charitable hospital, before transforming it into a full-fledged medical college to address the critical shortage of quality medical education and healthcare in Western Bihar. NMCH received initial approval from the Medical Council of India (MCI) for 100 MBBS seats in the 2008-09 academic year. This was expanded to 150 seats in 2018, and further to 250 seats from 2023 following recommendation by the National Medical Commission (NMC), making it one of the larger private medical colleges in Bihar. The college is affiliated with Gopal Narayan Singh University, a State Private University established in 2018 by the same Deo Mangal Memorial Trust, and is fully recognized by the NMC. The NMCH campus spans over 25 acres and houses a comprehensive medical college complex and a 1,150-bedded teaching hospital — one of the largest private teaching hospitals in the region. The hospital's catchment area covers Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, and Bhojpur districts in Bihar, and Garwah and Palamu districts in Jharkhand, serving a population of several million with tertiary care services. The hospital records a large daily OPD footfall and provides services across General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, TB & Chest Diseases, Dermatology, Dentistry, Neuro-Surgery, Cardiology, Urology, Nephrology, and Gastroenterology, among others. Super-specialty services include Interventional Cardiology (Cath Lab), Neurosurgery, Cardio-Thoracic Vascular Surgery (CTVS), Nephrology, Gastroenterology & Hepatology, and Urology & Kidney Transplant. The hospital is equipped with 14 modular operation theatres, a fully functional Cath Lab for invasive cardiology procedures (Angiography, Angioplasty, PCI), and comprehensive ICU infrastructure — ICU, ICCU, NICU, PICU, SICU, RICU, and a dedicated Burn ICU. The Radiology department features X-rays, Digital X-rays, USG, MRI, CT Scan, Mammography, and OPG, while the pathology, biochemistry, and microbiology labs offer full diagnostic support round the clock. The blood bank, ambulance services, and 24-hour emergency and trauma care further reinforce the hospital's role as the primary tertiary referral centre for the region. Academically, NMCH is organized across pre-clinical (Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology), para-clinical (Forensic Medicine, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pathology), and clinical departments (Community Medicine, Anaesthesiology, Dermatology, Dentistry, ENT, General Surgery, General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Radio-Diagnosis, TB & Chest Diseases). The college offers postgraduate MD and MS programs across 16+ departments, with admission via NEET PG through Bihar PGMAC counselling (50% state quota) and MCC All India counselling (50% All India quota). DM and MCh super-specialty programs are also available for NEET SS qualified candidates. The NMCH infrastructure includes five lecture theatres (four with combined capacity of 1,100+ students, one in the hospital with 300 seats), a spacious auditorium with 1,200-seat capacity with central AC and balcony, demonstration rooms in all departments, well-equipped individual department labs, a central library with e-resources, a skill development laboratory, a medical education unit, and digital classrooms with smart boards in select departments. Separate, fully-residential hostels are provided for boys (triple occupancy) and girls (double occupancy), with mess facilities, 24-hour power backup, common rooms, recreational areas, and campus-wide Wi-Fi. MBBS admission at NMCH is conducted via NEET UG through Bihar UGMAC counselling by BCECEB. The college offers three admission categories: State Quota (via UGMAC), Management Quota, and NRI Quota. The total fee for the MBBS course is approximately ₹72–75 Lakhs for 5.5 years under the general/state quota. MBBS interns receive a stipend of approximately ₹15,000 per month, and post-MBBS graduates are required to complete a compulsory rural service bond as per Bihar state norms. PG graduates (MD/MS) are also subject to a service bond (approximately 2-3 years, with a penalty of ₹25 Lakhs for default). NMCH is ranked among the top private medical colleges in Bihar by multiple education surveys and is a preferred destination for NEET aspirants from Bihar and neighboring states. With 250 MBBS seats, 16+ PG departments, a 1,150-bed hospital, and super-specialty services, NMCH Sasaram continues to fulfill its founding mission of delivering world-class healthcare education and services to the underserved communities of Western Bihar.
