National Institute of Technology Agartala (NIT Agartala or NITA) is one of the premier technical institutions of Northeast India, established in 1965 as Tripura Engineering College. It was granted NIT status in 2006, becoming the 20th NIT in India and the second oldest in the northeastern region. Located in Barjala, Jirania, near Agartala in Tripura, the institute is recognized as an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. M.Tech admissions require GATE scores through CCMT counselling, while MBA admissions accept CAT/GMAT/MAT/CMAT scores. The B.Tech fee ranges from INR 3.5 to 5 lakhs for the total programme, with the first semester tuition fee being INR 62,500. NIT Agartala has a strong placement track record. The highest package offered during 2024-25 placements was INR 52 LPA.
