National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur (NIT Jamshedpur or NIT JSR), established in 1960, is one of the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges set up by the Government of India. Originally known as the Regional Institute of Technology, it was upgraded to NIT status in 2002. Located in Adityapur, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, the institute spreads across a 341-acre campus with state-of-the-art infrastructure. NIT Jamshedpur offers B.Tech programs in CSE, ECE, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering and Computational Mechanics, Metallurgical and Material Engineering, and Production and Industrial Engineering. The institute also provides M.Tech, MBA, MCA, M.Sc, and Ph.D programs. The total B.Tech intake is approximately 810 seats. The institute is ranked 82nd in Engineering by NIRF 2025. Placements are exceptional — during the 2024-25 season, the highest package was Rs 1.44 Crore, making it one of the top-performing NITs in placements. CSE achieved 95.69% placement with an average of Rs 25.11 LPA. More than 260 companies visited, with 100+ being new recruiters. Overall placement rate was 93.76%. Top recruiters include Google, Microsoft, BlackRock, Adobe, Amazon, Accenture, Cisco, Citibank, BNY Mellon, and HSBC. Campus life features modern classrooms, well-equipped labs, hostels, sports facilities, and a central library. NIT Jamshedpur has signed MoUs with institutions like Netaji Subhash Medical College for comprehensive medical services. The institute provides strong placement support with a dedicated Training and Placement Cell that organizes workshops, seminars, and industry visits.
