National Institute of Technology Manipur (NIT Manipur) was established in 2010 as one of the 31 NITs in India, built with funding support from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It is an autonomous institute recognized by AICTE and UGC, designated as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. The campus is spread over 341.5 acres in Langol, Imphal, surrounded by the scenic beauty of the Manipur valley. NIT Manipur started with three engineering branches — Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering — and has since added Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. B.Tech admissions are through JEE Main scores via JoSAA counselling. The JEE Main cutoff for 2025 general category ranged from 166,719 to 312,646. The total B.Tech fee is approximately INR 5.78 lakhs (INR 1.48 lakhs per year). M.Tech admissions require GATE scores through CCMT, and M.Sc through IIT JAM via CCMN counselling. NIT Manipur placements have shown strong growth. The highest package in recent drives was INR 47 LPA offered by Amazon. A total of 147 placement offers were recorded. Other top recruiters include Tata Elxsi, Discovery, Deloitte, Reliance Jio, Samsung Display, Mahindra & Mahindra, Infoedge, Devtron, Microsoft, Wipro, Accenture, Infosys, IBM, Capgemini, Adobe, HSBC, TCS, and more. The campus has a faculty strength of about 70 highly qualified members, most being PhD holders. Facilities include modern classrooms, laboratories, workshops, a central library with research materials, hostels for boys and girls, sports grounds, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a medical centre. NIT Manipur continues to grow as a centre of excellence for technical education in the northeastern region.
