National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (NIT Meghalaya or NITM) is one of the 31 NITs established under the NIT Act 2007, recognized as an Institute of National Importance with full funding from the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Established in 2010, NIT Meghalaya is dedicated to providing quality technical education in the northeastern region of India. The institute currently operates from a temporary campus in Shillong, while its permanent campus is under development at Sohra (Cherrapunji), East Khasi Hills District. The permanent campus spans 300 acres and will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure while maintaining harmony with the serene environment of Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on earth. NIT Meghalaya offers B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, and PhD programmes. B.Tech specializations include Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering. The total B.Tech fee is approximately INR 5 to 5.68 lakhs. M.Tech fees range from INR 69,500 to 1.40 lakhs, and M.Sc fee is INR 30,000. Admissions follow standard NIT processes: JEE Main + JoSAA for B.Tech, GATE + CCMT for M.Tech, and IIT JAM + CCMN for M.Sc. The total B.Tech intake is approximately 646 students. JEE Main cutoff for 2025 general category ranged from 10,930 to 29,211. NIT Meghalaya has an impressive placement record with 76 recruiters offering 187 placements. The highest package reached INR 32 LPA, with an average of INR 10.41 LPA.
