National Institute of Technology Puducherry (NIT Puducherry or NITPY) was established by the Government of India in 2010 as one of the ten new NITs. It is one among the 31 NITs acknowledged as an Institute of National Importance. Located in Karaikal, a coastal town in the Union Territory of Puducherry, NIT Puducherry has a permanent campus and is developing rapidly with state-of-the-art infrastructure. NITPY has 10 departments offering programmes at UG, PG, PhD levels in Engineering, Technology, Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities. The flagship B.Tech programme is offered in 5 specializations: Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering. M.Tech, M.Sc, and PhD programmes are also available. B.Tech admissions are through JEE Main via JoSAA counselling. 50% seats are reserved for applicants from Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam. Total B.Tech fee is approximately INR 5.48-5.50 lakhs. First semester fee is INR 72,400 and second semester INR 67,950. M.Tech fee is approximately INR 1.69-1.94 lakhs. NIT Puducherry placements show strong performance. During 2025, 85% B.Tech students were placed with 47 recruiters and 159+ offers. The 2023 batch saw 228 placements across 57 companies with highest INR 20.24 LPA and average INR 9.70 LPA. CSE received 106 offers, ECE 53, EEE 40, MECH 20, and Civil 9. Top recruiters include CodeNation Solutions, Samsung R&D, Byju's, Virtusa, Optum, Raam Group, L&T Infotech, ABB, Ford, Qbit Labs, Publicis Sapient, and Jio Infocomm. NIRF 2025 ranks NIT Puducherry 99th in Engineering. QS 2025 Asian Rankings placed it 240th (Southern Asia). The campus features a central library (operational since 2010), health centre with medical officer and ambulance services, basketball court, indoor badminton, hostels with Wi-Fi, labs, and smart classrooms. Annual cultural, technical, and sports fests are celebrated. The technical fest is called Gyanith.
