National Institute of Technology Raipur (NIT Raipur or NITRR), formerly known as Government Engineering College Raipur, is a premier technical institution established in 1956. Its foundation stone was laid by the first President of India, Hon'ble Dr. Rajendra Prasad, and it was later inaugurated by the first Prime Minister, Hon'ble Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. The institute gained NIT status in 2005 and was recognized as an Institute of National Importance under the NIT Act 2007. Located in Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh, NIT Raipur is well connected with Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Nagpur, and Bhubaneswar by regular flights. The campus spans approximately 100 acres with state-of-the-art infrastructure. From its humble beginnings with two departments — Metallurgical and Mining Engineering — NIT Raipur has grown into a comprehensive centre of learning with over 15 departments. The institute offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs including B.Tech in 11 specializations (CSE, ECE, EE, ME, Civil, Chemical, Biomedical, Biotechnology, IT, Metallurgical & Materials, Mining), B.Arch, M.Tech, MCA, M.Sc, M.Plan, and PhD. NIT Raipur is ranked 86th in Engineering and 35th in Architecture & Planning by NIRF 2025. It is placed in the 151-200 rank band for Overall. The institute has also been ranked in the 851-900 band by QS Rankings 2026 for Asian Universities. During the 2025 placement season, the highest salary offered was Rs 60 LPA. CSE average package was Rs 14.6 LPA. A total of 135 companies conducted placements. The lowest package was Rs 3.66 LPA. Top recruiters include Deloitte, Wipro, TCS, HCL Tech, Genpact, and others. The institute has MoUs with organizations including Cold Forge and Jayaswal Neco Industries. NIT Raipur offers scholarships including Shraman Scholarship, Dr. K.K. Sugandhi Full Tuition Fees Reimbursement Scholarship, Runaya Reach Scholarship Program, and EIL Scholarship for SC/ST students. Standard NIT fee waivers apply for SC/ST/PwD and economically backward students.
