National Institute of Technology Srinagar (NIT Srinagar) is one of India's premier technical institutions, established in 1960 as one of the nine Regional Engineering Colleges sponsored by the Government of India during the 2nd Five-Year Plan. The institute acquired NIT status with deemed university status in August 2003 and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance under the NIT Act 2007. NIT Srinagar enjoys one of the most scenic campus locations among all NITs in India. The campus spans approximately 67 acres on the banks of the world-famous Dal Lake, with the Hazratbal Shrine on the north side and the Zabarwan Hills and Himalayan ranges surrounding it. NIT Srinagar offers B.Tech in 8 specializations: CSE, ECE, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, IT, and Metallurgical & Materials Engineering. M.Tech (14+ specializations), MBA, M.Sc, and PhD programs are also available. NIT Srinagar is ranked 73rd in Engineering by NIRF 2025 with a score of 50.23, and placed in the 101-150 overall rank band. It is ranked in the 1201-1500 band by Times Higher Education 2025. During the 2025 placement season, 504 students were placed with a 76.94% placement rate. The median salary for UG was Rs 11 LPA and for PG Rs 9.5 LPA. The B.Tech total tuition fee is Rs 5 lakhs. In 2024, the highest package was Rs 39 LPA for CSE, with 413 UG and 56 PG students placed. Top recruiters include NTPC, DRDO, TCS, L&T-ECC, Power Grid, Google, Microsoft, and Deloitte.
