North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), Sushrutanagar, Siliguri, is the largest government medical college in North Bengal — established in 1968 by Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy as the first medical college in the North Bengal region. Originally named North Bengal University Medical College (NBUMC), it was renamed NBMCH in 1978. Affiliated with West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC), NBMCH offers 200 MBBS seats, 72 PG seats (16 disciplines: 61 MD + 11 MS/Diploma), and super-specialty care in Cardiology, Paediatric Surgery, Gastroenterology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Facio Maxillary, and Dialysis. Selected under MoHFW scheme for 166-bed subspecialty care in Neurosurgery and CTVS. The campus spans 161 acres — the largest government medical college campus in West Bengal — in a semi-urban setting at Sushrutanagar, Siliguri. The 1,500-bed hospital has 24x7 emergency, trauma, ICU, NICU, PICU, MRI, CT, USG, Digital X-ray, Endoscopy, and a Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL).
