About North Bengal Medical College and Hospital
North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), established 18 November 1968 by Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy (2nd Chief Minister of West Bengal), is the oldest and largest government medical college in North Bengal, situated in Sushrutanagar (Thaknikata), 7.3 km from NJP Railway Station and 2 km from Siliguri town. It is the only tertiary referral healthcare facility in North Bengal and one of the twelve government medical colleges in West Bengal. Affiliated with WBUHS and recognised by NMC with 200 MBBS seats and 72 PG seats in 16 disciplines. The sprawling 161-acre semi-urban campus is between the mountains and greenery, equipped with gallery-type lecture halls, demonstration halls, common rooms for boys and girls, and an examination hall (under expansion). The attached hospital has 1,500 beds — one of the largest in North Bengal, with a catchment population of the entire North Bengal region (7+ districts: Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda) and neighbouring states (Sikkim, Bhutan, Nepal, parts of Bihar and Assam). OPD: high volume from mountain and plains populations. NEET 2024 AIQ cutoffs: General R1 closing ~18,000–22,000 (state-specific); SC state quota minimum AIR: 52,399. 5 AIQ allotments NEET 2021–2024.
