About North Delhi Municipal Corporation Medical College and Hospital

Official website

North Delhi Municipal Corporation Medical College and Hospital (NDMC Medical College), established in 2013, is a government medical college run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Located at the Hindu Rao Hospital Campus, Malka Ganj, Kamla Nehru Ridge, Civil Lines, New Delhi — on a beautiful green hilltop forming part of the Aravalli Mountain Range — the college is affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Approved by the Central Government, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. NDMC Medical College is one of three medical colleges being operated in India by Municipal Corporations — and the only one in Delhi. With a current MBBS intake of 60 students per year and 2 PG seats (MD Community Medicine), NDMC Medical College became the 7th government medical college in Delhi. The first batch graduated in August 2019, reported by Hindustan Times: 'First batch of doctors graduate from North DMC Medical College.' The college's founding Dean was Prof. Vinay Kumar Tiwari, an eminent medical educator who later became the founding Director of ABVIMS & Dr. RML Hospital. The teaching hospital is Hindu Rao Hospital — the largest multi-specialty hospital run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, with a bed capacity of 566+ beds. The hospital evolved from a 16-bedded nursing home established in 1911 on a private hilltop house built by British Resident Sir Edward Cole Brook. In addition to Hindu Rao Hospital, students rotate through Kasturba Hospital (women and children) and Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis (RBIPMT). The college has 74 faculty members and 49 resident doctors. The 6-storey academic block (M N Passi Block) features 3 AC 80-seat lecture theatres, a 350-seat auditorium, 4 examination halls (250 sq.m., 250 seats each), a Central Library (floors V & VII of G-Block, 1,008 sq.m., 4,565 books, 57 Indian + 24 foreign journal subscriptions, WHO special publications). The campus is residential with staff quarters and student hostels — a new 6-storey hostel complex is under construction for 100+ additional students.
