Nilratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital (NRS Medical College / NRSMC), Kolkata, is one of the oldest and most prestigious medical institutions in India, established on 1 December 1873 as Sealdah Medical School. Renamed in 1950 after Sir Nilratan Sircar — renowned physician, freedom fighter, and the college's own illustrious alumnus. Located at 138, A.J.C. Bose Road, near Sealdah Railway Station in Kolkata — approximately 15 km from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport — the college is affiliated with WBUHS and recognised by NMC. NRS offers 250 MBBS seats annually, 122 PG MD/MS seats in 19 disciplines, and 31 Super Specialty DM/MCh seats in 11 streams — making it one of the most comprehensive government medical colleges in Eastern India. The sprawling 33-acre campus features a 4,000 sq. m. academic building, centrally air-conditioned library (4,000 sq. m., 250-seat capacity), 31,000 books, 813 dissertations, 30 international + 61 national journals, gymnasium, auditorium, and sports facilities.
