Rajkiya Engineering College, Banda (REC Banda), formerly known as Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Engineering College of Information Technology (BRAECIT), is a premier government engineering institution established in 2010 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Situated on the Banda-Chitrakoot Road approximately 28 km from Banda city and 5 km from Atarra town, REC Banda is a constituent college of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow, and holds AICTE approval from New Delhi (AKTU College Code: 734, AISHE Code: C-49267). The college was established with the mission to extend quality technical education to the students of the Bundelkhand region and neighbouring districts. REC Banda offers B.Tech programmes in three core disciplines — Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and Information Technology (IT) — each with an annual intake of 60 students. The college shifted to its own fully residential 15-acre campus at Atarra in July 2015, and all academic activities since session 2015-16 are conducted from this self-contained campus. The infrastructure exceeds AICTE norms and includes state-of-the-art facilities comparable to institutions of national importance. The academic infrastructure is exceptional. Fully air-conditioned smart classrooms are equipped with Touch Screen Podiums, Interactive White Boards, Short Throw Projectors, and complete audio-visual systems. The Central Computer Centre houses 180 high-speed computers connected via LAN to advanced servers, all powered by a centralised online UPS with battery backup. BSNL has established a dedicated electronic exchange providing 100 Mbps leased-line internet connectivity via optical fibre, supplemented by Jio Wi-Fi across the entire campus. The campus is also equipped with CCTV surveillance and biometric attendance systems, ensuring a secure and disciplined environment. A state-of-the-art language laboratory with 30 nodes supports English communication development for engineering students. A 500 KVA generator ensures uninterrupted power supply to the entire campus. REC Banda's faculty pool comprises 36 highly qualified members across four departments: Applied Science and Humanities, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Information Technology. All faculty hold M.Tech or Ph.D. degrees from premier institutions including IITs, NITs, and IIITs. The college has been declared a Research Centre by AKTU Lucknow and has dedicated over 10,000 square metres to an Incubation Centre for supporting student and local entrepreneur startups in IoT and agri-tech. REC Banda is also a Zonal Centre for Virtual Labs, an MHRD initiative, and has been supported by the World Bank-funded TEQIP-III project and AKTU's Deen Dayal Upadhyay Quality Improvement Programme (DDUQIP). The central library is a rich knowledge hub with thousands of books, journals, and magazines. Students have access to the IEEE Digital Library and DELNET, enabling research through international journals. NPTEL course content is available offline on a dedicated server, and GATE coaching is offered to final-year students. Employability Skill Training is imparted to third-year students to sharpen communication and personality. The Training and Placement Cell of REC Banda prepares students through pre-placement sessions, resume workshops, group discussions, and mock interviews. As per the official 2024-25 placement data published on the college website, students secured positions at companies including Edustation, Launched Global, Edu-versity, Cognizant, HFCL, KP Reliable Technique, Textron, SteamRobo Technology, KODNEST, and High-Technext Engineering, with offers ranging from 1.8 LPA to 8 LPA. The highest package in 2024-25 was 8 LPA (Edu-versity, IT branch). As per NIRF 2025 data, 85 B.Tech students were placed in 2023-24 from 155 graduating students, yielding a 56% placement rate with a median salary of INR 3.36 LPA. The fully residential campus features five hostels for boys and girls with mess facilities, curfew norms, and round-the-clock security. Recreational amenities include a Student Activity Centre, gymnasium, outdoor sports courts for volleyball, basketball, football, and cricket, and indoor facilities for carrom and chess. An on-campus canteen and grocery store meet daily requirements. The annual hostel fee is INR 11,000 as per the official 2025-26 fee structure document. The college's Institution Innovation Council holds a 4-star rating from the Ministry of Education and won first position at the Dr. Kalam Entrepreneurship League 2019. Students are regularly sent to IITs, NITs, and NIE Mysuru for training and workshops, broadening their academic horizons beyond the classroom.
