About Rajkiya Engineering College, Sonbhadra
Rajkiya Engineering College, Sonbhadra (REC Sonbhadra) is a government engineering institution established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2015. It is affiliated with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow, and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The college is also accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). It is situated in the scenic Markundi area of Sonbhadra district near the Son Echo Point, surrounded by hills, mountains, and waterfalls — giving it a unique natural setting unlike most engineering colleges in India. The college offers B.Tech undergraduate programmes in four specialisations: Computer Science and Engineering (60 seats), Electronics Engineering (60 seats), Electrical Engineering (60 seats), and Mining Engineering (30 seats). B.Tech Lateral Entry is also offered in select branches for diploma holders. Total annual intake is 210 students across all B.Tech branches. REC Sonbhadra features well-equipped laboratories, a central library, computer centre, 24x7 internet facility (100 Mbps broadband), and separate hostel accommodations for boys and girls. The college has four hostels — three for boys and one for girls. The natural hillside campus provides a peaceful and distraction-free learning environment. The college grounds support cricket, volleyball, badminton, and football. The fee structure (2026-27) is: Tuition Fee Rs. 40,000/year + User Charges Rs. 12,300/year + Hostel Fee Rs. 10,000/year = Rs. 62,300/year (from 2nd year onwards). First-year fees for GEN/OBC after seat acceptance fee deduction is Rs. 48,300. Fee Waiver (FW) category students are exempt from tuition fees. UP Government scholarship schemes effectively reimburse fees for eligible SC/ST and OBC students. The placement cell has established connections with IBM India Pvt Ltd, Exotic Innovations Pvt Ltd, Amazon, ThoughtWorks Technologies, Axis Bank, Infosys, and others. Average package is around 3–5 LPA. GATE preparation is a strong focus for students. Admissions are through UPTAC (UP Technical Admission Counselling) based on JEE Main scores.

The campus is situated near the Son Echo Point in the Markundi hills of Sonbhadra district. The natural surroundings with mountains and waterfalls provide a uniquely peaceful, distraction-free study environment. The campus is about 3 hours from Varanasi by road.
Admissions are through UPTAC (UP Technical Admission Counselling) based on JEE Main scores. Lateral entry for diploma holders into the 2nd year is also available via UPTAC Lateral Entry counselling.
REC Sonbhadra provides four hostels — three for boys and one for girls — with Wi-Fi, mess, security, and basic amenities. Hostel fee is Rs. 10,000/year (included in the total fee structure). A refundable hostel caution money of Rs. 1,000 is charged in the first year.
