Founded as Calcutta School of Medicine by Dr. Radha Gobinda Kar to ensure self-sufficiency (Swaraj) in medical education during the colonial era. Renamed Belgachia Medical College (1916) → Carmichael Medical College → R.G. Kar Medical College (1948, in honour of founder). Taken over by WB Govt on 12 May 1958. Affiliated with WBUHS from 2003 (formerly University of Calcutta 1916–2003). Completed 100 years of service in 2016. Address: 1, Khudiram Bose Sarani, Belgachia, Kolkata – 700004. NMC + INC recognized. 250 MBBS seats. 175 PG seats (MD/MS/DNB) in 22 disciplines. 28 SS seats (DM/MCH) in 6 streams.
