R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH), established 1886, is Asia's FIRST private medical college. Founded as Calcutta School of Medicine by Dr. Radha Gobinda Kar to ensure self-sufficiency (Swaraj) in medical education during the colonial era. Renamed Belgachia Medical College (1916) → Carmichael Medical College → R.G. Kar Medical College (1948, in honour of founder). Taken over by WB Govt on 12 May 1958. Affiliated with WBUHS from 2003 (formerly University of Calcutta 1916–2003). Completed 100 years of service in 2016. Address: 1, Khudiram Bose Sarani, Belgachia, Kolkata – 700004. NMC + INC recognized. 250 MBBS seats. 175 PG seats (MD/MS/DNB) in 22 disciplines. 28 SS seats (DM/MCH) in 6 streams. Admission: 85% via WBMCC (West Bengal Medical Counselling Committee) state quota counselling at wbmcc.nic.in. 15% AIQ via MCC (mcc.nic.in). Counselling fee: ₹2,000 General; ₹1,500 Reserved. WB domicile required for 85% state quota. SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/EWS/PWD reservations apply. PG: 50% AIQ (MCC) + 50% WB state (WBMCC). Docs: NEET scorecard, 10+2 (both sides), WB domicile cert (Proforma A1/A2), community/caste cert, PwD cert (if applicable), 10th cert, MBBS cert (PG), internship completion cert (PG).
