Ruxmaniben Deepchand Gardi Medical College (RDGMC), Ujjain, carries with it the singular distinction of being the first private medical college established in the entire state of Madhya Pradesh. Founded in 2001 by the Ujjain Charitable Trust Hospital and Research Centre — a philanthropic institution with deep roots in Ujjain's history of healthcare — RDGMC emerged from a vision that was conceived as far back as 1997, when a dedicated team of trustees recognized the urgent need for quality private medical education in central India. The college was named in honor of Ruxmaniben Deepchand Gardi, a distinguished benefactor of the Gardi family, whose philanthropic legacy the institution proudly carries forward. Located on Agar Road, Village Surasa, Ujjain — one of the seven sacred cities of Hinduism and a historical seat of learning since ancient times — RDGMC occupies a unique geographical and cultural position. Ujjain is the city where, according to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna himself received his education at Sant Sandipani's Ashram on the banks of the river Kshipra. In this same ancient city of learning, RDGMC was established to carry forward the tradition of knowledge, care, and service. The campus is spread across approximately 25 acres, approximately 60 km from Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, Indore, making it easily accessible for students from across Madhya Pradesh and neighboring states. Four campus buses with 50-seat capacity and additional 10-seater vehicles and ambulances provide student transport. At the core of RDGMC's academic strength is its dual hospital infrastructure — a combination that is unique among private medical colleges in MP. The Ujjain Charitable Trust Hospital, established as early as 1992, is a 400-bed multi-specialty hospital located in Ujjain city, equipped with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technology including CT Scanner and state-of-the-art operation theatres. The second and larger hospital — the C.R. Gardi Hospital — is the main teaching hospital situated directly on the medical college campus. This 850+ bedded hospital provides all services entirely free of cost to patients, making it a true charitable institution. Combined, the two hospitals provide 850+ beds of clinical infrastructure, with on-campus super specialists available 24×7 for emergency services. The hospital has major tie-ups with corporate entities and TPAs for cashless services, further broadening its patient reach. Academically, RDGMC commenced postgraduate MD/MS programs from 2009 onwards — now running across 18 medical specializations. Notably, RDGMC was the first college in Madhya Pradesh to introduce PG degrees in Dermatology, Tuberculosis & Respiratory Diseases, and Psychiatry — a pioneering achievement that reflects the institution's commitment to addressing the full spectrum of medical specialties in the state.
