Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College & Research Institute (SABVMCRI) — formerly known as Bowring & Lady Curzon Medical College & Research Institute — is a fully autonomous government medical college established in 2019 by the Government of Karnataka, located in the historic Shivajinagar neighbourhood of Central Bengaluru. The college was renamed to honour former Prime Minister of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. SABVMCRI is affiliated with RGUHS, Bengaluru, and approved by NMC for 150 MBBS seats and MD/MS postgraduate courses in select specialties, with additional seats being phased in. 100% merit-based admissions — no Management or NRI quota — via KEA (State Quota, 85%) and MCC (AIQ, 15%). The 18-acre campus, magnificently set in Central Bengaluru's Shivajinagar area, features a state-of-the-art 13-floor building with technology-infused smart classrooms, 5 lecture halls, an examination hall (200+ seat capacity), demonstration rooms, fully-equipped NMC-compliant departmental laboratories, a central library, and an auditorium (under construction). Yes. Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College & Research Institute (SABVMCRI) was formerly known as Bowring & Lady Curzon Medical College & Research Institute (BLCMCRI). It was renamed in honour of former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The official government website (blcmcri.karnataka.gov.in) still carries the former name URL. Both names refer to the same institution established in 2019 in Shivajinagar, Bengaluru. Multiple aggregators continue to use both names interchangeably.
SABVMCRI is a fully autonomous government medical college under the Government of Karnataka. There is NO Management or NRI quota — all 150 MBBS seats are filled through KEA (State Quota, 85%) and MCC (AIQ, 15%) based purely on NEET merit.
The college was established in 2019, initially as Bowring & Lady Curzon Medical College. It is among Karnataka's newest government medical colleges. The first MBBS batch completed their internship in 2024-25. The college is in phased development for PG programmes.
