The hospital Pakwasa Samanvaya Rugnalaya predates the college by four years. It was established on 13th February 1949 on the inspiration of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj, with then Governor of C.P. & Berar Shri Mangaldasji Pakwasa playing the founding role, and its inauguration on 1st January 1950 was performed by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the presence of President Dr. Rajendra Prasad. The college itself was established in 1953 and was first recognised by the Vidarbha Ayurved Board in 1956, later affiliated to Nagpur University in 1972 with 90% Government grant-in-aid, and currently affiliated to MUHS Nashik.

The medium of instruction for both BAMS and MD/MS courses is Hindi, Marathi, English, and Sanskrit making the college accessible to students from diverse linguistic backgrounds across Maharashtra, Central India, and beyond.

As a Government Grant-in-Aid institution receiving 90% grants from the Government of Maharashtra, the BAMS fee at Shri Ayurved Nagpur is significantly subsidised compared to unaided private BAMS colleges.
