Shri Balahanuman Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Lodra, Gandhinagar, was established in 1963 by Saint Shri Balaramdasji Maharaj (reverently called 'Mota Bapji'), with the motto 'Service to Man is Service to God'. The institute traces its roots to 1942, when the Saint first established a Temple and an Aushadhalaya (Ayurvedic medicine store) under the name Shri Balahanuman Ashram, aimed at providing social and medical service to the poor and needy. Today, the college operates under two complementary organizations functioning as one: Shri Balahanuman Ashram and Ayurved Vikas Mandal. The college is recognized by Gujarat University and the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), and the BAMS degree is awarded by Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar. What distinguishes this institution is its strong charitable mission: in addition to education, students are provided with free lodging, boarding, and clothing as part of the institute's commitment to serving economically weaker sections of society, making it a genuine boon for underprivileged students seeking an Ayurveda education. Spread across fourteen functioning academic departments, the campus features a herbal/botanical garden cultivating Ayurvedic medicinal plants for practical student education, a museum, a dining hall, separate hostels for boys and girls, a modern laboratory and library, and audio-visual teaching aids such as audio and video cassettes for instructional support. Students must maintain 80% attendance separately in both theory and practical sessions for each subject to be eligible to appear for examinations, per Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) norms.
