Originally founded in 2009 as an ESIC (Employee's State Insurance Corporation) Medical College by then Union Labour Minister Shri Oskar Fernandes, it was subsequently transferred to the Government of HP and renamed after former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in 2017. The college is affiliated with AMRU (Atal Medical & Research University), HP and recognised by NMC. Spread over a lush green 32-acre campus in the scenic Balh Valley, SLBSGMC admits 120 MBBS students annually and operates a remarkably large PG programme of 152 MD/MS seats across 26 disciplines – among the most extensive PG offerings of any newer HP government college.
