Shri Varshney College, Aligarh (SVC Aligarh) is a multi-faculty college established in 1947, and traces its origin to a commercial pathshala started on 14th May 1922 during the Non-Cooperation Movement, which was raised to middle level in 1931, High School in 1939, and Intermediate in 1945. As Aligarh Muslim University did not permit another degree college within 10 miles under the A.M.U. Act, the Chancellor of Agra University specially approved the college's establishment on 22-6-1947. Dr. Kanhaiya Lal Garg was appointed its founder Principal, with a staff of 9 teachers and 3 clerks; the college began with 20 students in LL.B. 1st year and 33 students in B.Com. 1st year. The college is currently affiliated to Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University (RMPSU), Aligarh (earlier to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra), and has grown into a reputed multi-faculty institution with Science, Humanities, Social Sciences, Teachers' Education, Commerce and Law faculties, with a total student strength of more than 6000, of which about 4000 are female students. Prof. Neeta currently serves as Principal. SVC Aligarh offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across Arts (B.A./M.A.), Science (B.Sc./M.Sc.), Commerce (B.Com./M.Com.), Law (LL.B.), Teacher Education (B.Ed.), and Job-Oriented/Self-Finance programmes including BBA, BBA (Logistics), BCA, B.Lib.I.Sc., D.Lib.I.Sc., along with M.Sc. in Computer Science, Zoology and Botany, and M.A. in Defence & Strategic Studies (DSST). The college also guides research scholars (Ph.D.) as per notices on its website.
