Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS), Gangtok, established in 2000, is the only medical college in Sikkim and one of India's premier medical institutions. Located at 5th Mile, Tadong, Gangtok-737102, it is affiliated to Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical & Technical Sciences (SMU) — India's first public-private partnership for higher healthcare education established in 1995. SMIMS is recognized by NMC, UGC, and the Government of India, and holds NIRF rank band 101–150 (2022) and India Today rank #22 overall. The campus spreads over 25 acres of scenic mountainous terrain combining Sikkimese and modern architecture. It offers 150 MBBS seats and 22 PG (MD/MS) seats across 10 disciplines. The Central Referral Hospital is a 500-bed tertiary care 9-storied facility with 300,000 sq.ft floor space, 21 specialties, 11 major and 2 minor OTs, and super-specialties including Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Cardiosurgery, and Urology. Candidates must separately apply on the SMU website (smu.edu.in) using NEET UG scores. 100% seats are filled through Sikkim State NEET UG counselling conducted offline by SMU. Candidates must physically report for counselling. No direct MCC AIQ process — SMU manages its own counselling.
