SLMCH is a private medical college under the Dr. MGR Group of Educational Institutions. It is affiliated to Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute (Deemed University) and Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. It is approved by NMC.

SLMCH had 150 MBBS seats for AY 2024-25 and received NMC LOP for an increase to 200 seats from AY 2025-26. All seats are filled through MCC Deemed University NEET UG counselling — there is no direct admission.

In 2024, the overall last-round AIQ closing rank for General category was 1,12,218. In 2023 it was 2,86,941 and in 2022 it was 3,86,424. The improving trend (lower rank = more competitive) reflects growing preference for the college.
