Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), formerly Thapar University, is one of India's leading private deemed-to-be-universities established in 1956 by visionary industrialist Karamyogi Thapar. The University may relax entrance requirements for candidates with extraordinary achievements in the areas such as sports, music, dance, painting, social work, software development etc, with passing marks in their 10+2 examination. CUET and SAT scores will be given due consideration (if available) and Applicants with an SAT score of 1260 or above can directly appear for the Personal Interaction without appearing for the online test.

The total 4-year BTech tuition fee at TIET ranges from INR 20.72 lakhs (for branches like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) to INR 26.32 lakhs (for COE, CSE, AIML, ECE branches) for Indian students, as per 2024-25 rates. This excludes hostel and mess fees.
Hostel is not compulsory, but available for all students. First-year students are typically allotted Hostel C (boys) and respective girls' hostels.
