About Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute, Kanpur
Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute (UPTTI), formerly known as Government Central Textile Institute (GCTI), is a premier state government-founded textile engineering college in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Established in 1914, it is one of the oldest textile institutes in North India with over 100 years of legacy in textile education and research. UPTTI came into its present form in 1937 by the merger of two premier textile institutes — one at Kanpur and the other at Roorkee (Department of Textile Technology, Thomson Civil Engineering College). The institute is an autonomous institution of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, approved by UGC and AICTE, with NBA accreditation. It is affiliated with AKTU, Lucknow. In 2006, it was renamed from GCTI to UPTTI under the society act. The campus spans 12.4 acres with modern buildings, state-of-the-art facilities, well-equipped laboratories for spinning, weaving, knitting, chemical processing, dyeing, finishing, and quality control. The library is fully computerized. The institute has a Centre of Excellence in Technical Textiles established with support from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. A Technology Business Incubator (TBI) supports startups in the textile sector. UPTTI offers B.Tech in 4 main streams: Textile Technology, Textile Chemistry, Man Made Fibre Technology, and Textile Engineering. A new B.Tech CSE was introduced in 2024-25. M.Tech is offered in Textile Technology and Textile Chemistry. PhD research facilities are available. Total seat intake is approximately 230. B.Tech fee ranges from INR 1,12,500 to 2,44,800.
